Even if you've been riding a while and haven't taken one of these classes, we highly recommend it. You can learn a ton. What is the best beginner bike to buy? You will get a ton of answers to this question depending on who you talk to. Without giving you specifics, I will tell you that you should buy a bike that is "comfortable" to you. Sit on many different bikes (in a sensible cc range, of course) and find the bikes that feels best for you. You want to be safe when learning, and you're not going to do well on a bike that you don't feel right on. When it comes to cc's...just be sensible. Each person will find a different bike more appealing, but comfort and safety should be your primary concerns. What type of gear should I buy? In a nutshell, the best that you can afford. DO NOT SKIMP ON YOUR SAFETY. If you go down, the only thing there to protect you is whatever gear you have on. Leather is your best bet for safety, whether you buy a full suit, a two-piece suit that attaches, or leather pants and a jacket. The people on this list that have gone down in leather have all survived with minimal injuries, if any at all. And they all thanked the gear that they chose. Always wear a helmet, gloves, and boots that cover your ankles. Those are essential. Just remember, your safety is as good as your gear. You may never have to test it out, which is great...but if the situation ever occurs when you do, you'll find the money you spent was well worth it...and much cheaper than hospital bills. |
